Semi-Trailer Trucks

A semi-trailer truck, more commonly called a semi truck, is the combination of a tractor unit and one or more semi-trailers to carry freight.

A tractor unit is a characteristically heavy-duty towing engine that provides motive power for hauling a towed or trailered load.

A semitrailer is a trailer without a front axle.

It is variously known as a transport in Canada; semi or single in Australia; semi, tractor-trailer, big rig, or eighteen-wheeler in the United States; and articulated lorry, abbreviated artic, in Britain and Ireland.

Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a country comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania and numerous smaller islands.

An articulated vehicle is a vehicle which has a permanent or semi-permanent pivot joint in its construction, allowing the vehicle to turn more sharply.

Transport or transportation is the movement of people, animals and goods from one location to another.

A semi-trailer attaches to the tractor with a fifth wheel hitch, with much of its weight borne by the tractor.

The fifth-wheel coupling provides the link between a semi-trailer and the towing truck, tractor unit, leading trailer or dolly.

The result is that both tractor and semi-trailer will have a distinctly different design than a rigid truck and trailer.
